About the Role

Senior Backend Software Engineer, Software Integrations

Astranis builds advanced satellites for high orbits, expanding humanity’s reach into the solar system. Today, Astranis satellites provide dedicated, secure networks to highly-sophisticated customers across the globe— large enterprises, sovereign governments, and the US military. With five satellites on orbit and many more set to launch soon, the company is servicing a backlog of more than $1 billion of commercial contracts.

Astranis is the preferred satellite communications partner for buyers with stringent requirements for uptime, data security, network visibility, and customization.Astranis has raised over $750 million from some of the world’s best investors, from Andreessen Horowitz to Blackrock and Fidelity, and employs a team of 450 engineers and entrepreneurs. Astranis designs, builds, and operates its satellites out of its 153,000 sq. ft. headquarters in Northern California, USA.

Senior Backend Software Engineer, Software Integrations

Before a satellite can be launched into orbit, it needs to be financed, procured, manufactured, and tested.  As a Software Integrations Engineer, you will play a critical role in building out the infrastructure and business insights that will enable us to build satellites faster and more efficiently. You will own and implement internal software that powers hardware design, manufacturing, and business intelligence across our satellite development programs.

You’ll work cross-functionally to identify inefficiencies, streamline workflows, and build tools to support our growing fleet of spacecraft.  This is an opportunity to own and implement data-driven tools that will enable Astranis to scale our operations across multiple functions.

This role supports both commercial and US Government satellite programs.

Role

• Design, implement, and maintain software systems and applications that support hardware engineering, manufacturing, and operational workflows.

• Build data warehouse infrastructure and pipelines that will be used to drive decision making across teams.

• Design and implement AI agent workflows to automate internal processes.

• Integrate with key hardware design, manufacturing and procurement systems such as Altium, Arena, and NetSuite to enable seamless data flow and process alignment.

• Identify and implement automation opportunities to eliminate manual steps and increase velocity across engineering and business operations.

• Build intuitive, performant user interfaces that provide insights into workflow progress, efficiency metrics, and historical trends.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, refine workflows, and propose scalable software solutions.

• Own features through the full development lifecycle — from concept and architecture through implementation, test, and deployment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical background.

• 5+ years of software development experience, preferably in environments supporting physical product development.

• Proficiency with Python or similar high-level object-oriented programming languages.

• Experience with relational databases (e.g., Postgres) and REST/GraphQL API integrations.

• Experience deploying backend services to cloud environments (AWS, GCP, etc.).

• Background in building data pipelines and working with performant warehouses/data lakes (Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks).

Bonus

• Familiarity with manufacturing, logistics, and hardware design tools (Altium, Arena, Netsuite, First Resonance, Manufacturo, …)

• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes

About the Company

Astranis is a pioneering space technology company that designs, manufactures, and operates advanced small satellites for high orbits, particularly geostationary orbit (GEO) and medium Earth orbit (MEO). Unlike traditional satellite providers that focus on either small satellites for low Earth orbit or massive, costly satellites for high orbits, Astranis has developed a new class of compact, powerful, and radiation-hardened satellites. Their flagship product, MicroGEO, delivers dedicated satellite broadband and other mission-critical services, with over 10 satellites on contract and more than $1 billion in satellite services sold to commercial and government customers worldwide, including the U.S. Space Force, NASA, and major telecom providers.

Working at Astranis offers the opportunity to be part of a team that is solving some of the most challenging engineering problems in the space industry, such as building resilient satellites capable of withstanding the harsh radiation environment of high orbits. The company is headquartered at Historic Pier 70 in California, where it handles all aspects of satellite development in-house, from design and manufacturing to testing and operations. Employees at Astranis contribute to projects that have a global impact, enhancing communications, navigation, and security for both commercial and government clients, while being part of a mission-driven organization at the forefront of space innovation.
