About the Role

Engineering Technician

Union Technologies is reindustrializing America’s defense manufacturing base with a first-of-its-kind Factories-as-a-Stockpile™ model, integrating advanced robotics, manufacturing, and software into sovereign factory systems at scale. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, UNION is dedicated to restoring America’s industrial strength and guaranteeing deterrence for the century ahead.

We recently emerged from stealth with $50M in funding led by top-tier venture investors and strategic partners. Read more in our Press Release

As a Mechanical Engineering Technician, you will drive OEE gains on defense-critical production lines. You will partner with Manufacturing, Quality, and Controls to lift reliability, raise first-pass yield, and take time out of cycle. You will support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), including executing protocols, collecting data, and closing punch-list items. Some travel, including international in the first few months, may be required.

What You’ll Do

• Run and support Kaizen events that improve Availability, First-Pass Yield, and Throughput.

• Work with engineers to identify and remove bottlenecks on the line and document durable countermeasures.

• Design, build, and fit simple fixtures and production aids; use shop tools and basic fabrication as needed.

• Use internal tools to diagnose product and equipment issues, perform root cause analysis, and communicate corrective actions.

• Draft and update Manufacturing Instructions and assist with training operators and other technicians.

• Pull and analyze production data to spot patterns and propose solutions using Excel and, where helpful, Python, SQL, Minitab, or JMP.

• Support FAT/SAT mechanically: instrument stations, run acceptance tests, log results in MES, and help release equipment to production.

• Perform precision metrology and basic preventive maintenance to protect rate and quality.

•

What You’ll Bring

• Hands-on experience with hand and power tools and mechanical assembly, including fasteners, fits, torque methods, and alignment.

• Working knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics; basic electro-mechanical skills are a plus (low-voltage sensors, harness repair, DMM use).

• Ability to read prints, GD&T, and schematics; comfortable interpreting 3D CAD. Experience with SolidWorks or similar is preferred.

• Exposure to fabrication or prototyping is helpful (machining basics, 3D printing, laser cutting).

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort using data tools to support decisions.

• Clear written and verbal communication; willingness to follow and improve SWIs and safety procedures (LOTO, cranes/rigging, forklifts).

• Ability to travel, including internationally during early equipment builds and SAT, as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Experience:

• Tech I: 1–2+ years mechanical assembly/maintenance/prototyping.

• Tech II: 3–5+ years owning setups, alignments, PMs, and quality checks.

• Tech III (Lead): 6+ years, cross-trade troubleshooting and mentoring.

• Core skills: Read prints & GD&T precision assembly to tolerance; shop math; hand/power tools; basic mill/lathe/drill; hydraulics/pneumatics fundamentals; create clear notes/SWIs.

• Tempo: Demonstrated ability to meet rate and quality targets under time pressure while following SWIs and safety rules.

Preferred

• CAD literacy for simple fixture edits (SolidWorks or similar); ability to interpret 3D models.

• Exposure to PLC/VFD basics (status reads, alarm ack), sensors, and I/O checks (controls team will own programming).

• Experience with heat treat/thermal processes, hardness checks, and distortion control (nice to have for our parts).

• CMMS/MES and basic SPC; root-cause tools (5-Why, Ishikawa).

• Certifications: Forklift, overhead crane/rigging, OSHA-10; able to qualify for U.S. export-control programs if required by contract.

Join the mission. We'll handle the move.Exceptional talent shouldn't be bound by geography. If you're ready to relocate to Dallas, TX and join us in reindustrializing America’s defense backbone, we'll make it easy—and for those who move quickly, additional incentives may be available.
