About the Role

GNC Engineer III (Reentry)

Turning Space into a Transportation Layer for Earth

Who We Are:

Eras of humanity can often be defined by a dominant transportation mode - horse-drawn chariots, ocean-going boats, or aircraft. These were spurred by a small group of people rigorously focused on building technology to achieve faster access to more of the world.  We seek to usher in a new era of humanity defined by universal access to the whole globe free of borders and the presence of a routine way from space to Earth. To do this, we are building highly maneuverable re-entry vehicles that can loiter in orbit before precision landing back on Earth.

What You’ll Do:

As a GNC Engineer at Inversion, you will have an instrumental impact on the functionality and performance of our next-generation reentry vehicles. You will own a substantial aspect of the Guidance, Navigation, and Control that will enable the dynamic and precise reentry of our Arc spacecraft into the atmosphere. Aspects of this work will include development of the 6-DOF Monte-Carlo testing framework for reentry vehicles, subsystem testing to mature physics models, flight software deployment and integrated system testing and flight test support.  Your work will help shape a novel reentry vehicle and inform how we architect it's missions.  You will be challenged with problems that you haven't faced before and you will need to rapidly iterate and test the solutions that you develop.  You will be a key member of the Reentry team, reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, Reentry.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Typically 5+ years of applicable experience developing and testing GNC algorithms or systems.

• Strong fundamental understanding of estimation and control algorithms.

• Proficiency in programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or C++ for simulation and analysis.

• Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment.

• This position is on-site at Inversion HQ in Playa Vista, CA.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with GNC actuator and sensor testing, model verification and validation through test data correlation.

• Hardware in the Loop (HITL) test experience.

• Experience deploying code to real hardware in a compute-restricted environment.

The California annual base salary for this role is currently $150,000-$170,000.  Pay Grades are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data.  Individual pay will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: interviews and an assessment of several factors that are unique to each candidate, job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and internal equity.

ITAR Compliance:

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. About the Company

Inversion Space

Inversion Space is pioneering a new era in logistics by developing autonomous, highly maneuverable re-entry vehicles designed to deliver cargo and effects from space to anywhere on Earth in under an hour. Their flagship vehicle, Arc, is a reusable, low-cost spacecraft that transforms low-Earth orbit into an on-demand logistics network, enabling unprecedented speed and global access for critical deliveries. Inversion’s technology is positioned to revolutionize how goods, including military supplies and other time-sensitive materials, are transported across the globe, making Earth radically more accessible through space-based delivery solutions.

The company’s first spacecraft, Ray, was developed entirely in-house by a small, agile team to validate key technical subsystems for future vehicles like Arc, demonstrating Inversion’s ability to innovate rapidly and cost-effectively. Inversion Space is actively seeking creative, passionate, and relentless individuals to join their mission-driven team, offering the opportunity to work on cutting-edge space systems that have the potential to reshape global logistics and make a tangible impact on the world.
