WHO YOU ARE:
Astro Mechanica is a vertically integrated aerospace company building a faster, more connected future. Our mission is to democratize high-speed flight by making supersonic travel flexible, accessible, and sustainable. We believe that rapid, on-demand, point-to-point global mobility will become the new standard for moving people and goods across the planet. To achieve this, we are integrating our advanced airframe and engine technologies—which include Duality™, our proprietary dual-use propulsion system—with a new flight operations model to make supersonic transport as efficient and economical as commercial air travel is today. In the near term, we are developing adaptable, high-speed systems to close aircraft performance gaps for the United States government.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
• Own the entire design lifecycle, from translating initial requirements into a working concept through detailed design, analysis, fabrication, and flight test.
• Perform system-level trade studies and architecture evaluations to optimize performance, weight, and reliability
• Lead the technical design and integration of complex mechanical and fluid systems, ensuring performance, reliability, and efficiency to meet the demands of challenging environments.
• Drive the selection, development, and integration of system components, managing supplier activities to optimize performance and achieve program goals.
• Perform and document in-depth system analyses, including performance modeling and system safety analyses.
• Develop comprehensive test plans and lead validation and verification activities, from component-level qualification to integrated vehicle functional tests.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including structures, propulsion, avionics, and manufacturing to ensure seamless integration
• Act as the subject matter expert for your systems, providing technical leadership and hands-on support during vehicle build and flight test campaigns.
• Mentor and train other engineers, fostering technical excellence and driving innovative solutions to complex system design challenges.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• 8+ years of experience in mechanical systems design and integration for aerospace applications.
• Proven track record of owning the full development lifecycle of a complex mechanical subsystem on an air vehicle.
• Strong proficiency in 3D CAD tools (such as NX, CATIA V5, or SolidWorks) for designing mechanical parts and systems.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze system behavior using first principles and appropriate analytical methods.
• Experience leading technical design reviews and providing clear, actionable direction to other engineers and technicians.
• Hands-on experience with hardware prototyping, system integration, and executing component and system-level test plans.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Previous success in a technical leadership or mentorship role, with a passion for coaching other engineers.
• Ability to work on an aggressive schedule and willingness to travel to test sites as needed.
